I am glad that my friends in Pakistan are safe but I am seriously worried about their future and actually the entire region's safety for if the current trend in Pakistan is not quelled ...anything can happen especially if crazy people like Maulana Fazullah gain more power !!!

The world community must turn their attention to what is going on inside Pakistan ... I am wondering why the situation in Pakistan is not coming up as a crisis in the UN SC !!

Why are we in India so embarrassed to recognize our own strengths, our
achievements? We are such a great nation. We have so many amazing success
stories but we refuse to acknowledge them. Why?
We are the first in milk production.
We are number one in Remote sensing satellites.
We are the second largest producer of wheat.
We are the second largest producer of rice.
Look at Dr. Sudarshan , he has transferred the tribal village into a
self-sustaining, self-driving unit. There are millions of such achievements
but our media is only obsessed in the bad news and failures and disasters. I
was in Tel Aviv once and I was reading the Israeli newspaper. It was the
day
after a lot of attacks and bombardments and deaths had taken place. The
Hamas had struck. But the front page of the newspaper had the picture of a
Jewish gentleman who in five years had transformed his desert into an orchid
and a granary. It was this inspiring picture that everyone woke up to. The
gory details of killings, bombardments, deaths, were inside in the
newspaper, buried among other news.

In India we only read about death, sickness, terrorism, crime. Why are we so
NEGATIVE? Another question: Why are we, as a nation so obsessed with foreign
things? We want foreign T. Vs, we want foreign shirts. We want foreign
technology.

Why this obsession with everything imported. Do we not realize that
self-respect comes with self-reliance? I was in Hyderabad giving this
lecture,
when a 14 year old girl asked me for my autograph. I asked her what her goal
in life is. She replied: I want to live in a developed India . For her,
you and I will have to build this developed India . You must proclaim. India
is not an under-developed nation; it is a highly developed nation. Do you
have 10 minutes? Allow me to come back with a vengeance.

Got 10 minutes for your country? If yes, then read; otherwise, choice is
yours.
YOU say that our government is inefficient.
YOU say that our laws are too old.
YOU say that the municipality does not pick up the garbage.
YOU say that the phones don't work, the railways are a joke,
The airline is the worst in the world, mails never reach their destination.
YOU say that our country has been fed to the dogs and is the absolute pits.

YOU say, say and say. What do YOU do about it?
Take a person on his way to Singapore Give him a name - YOURS. Give him a

in London at 10 pounds ( Rs.650) a month to, 'see to it that my STD and ISD
calls are billed to someone else.'YOU would not dare to speed beyond 55 mph
(88 km/h) in Washington and then tell the traffic cop,
'Jaanta hai main kaun hoon (Do you know who I am?). I am so and so's son.
Take your two bucks and get lost.' YOU wouldn't chuck an empty coconut shell
anywhere other than the garbage pail on the beaches in Australia and New
Zealand .
Why don't YOU spit Paan on the streets of Tokyo ? Why don't YOU use
examination jockeys or buy fake certificates in Boston ??? We are still
talking of the same YOU. YOU who can respect and conform to a foreign system
in other countries but cannot in your own. You who will throw papers and
cigarettes on the road the moment you touch Indian ground. If you can be an
involved and appreciative citizen in an alien country, why cannot you be the
same here in India ?

Once in an interview, the famous Ex-municipal commissioner of Bombay , Mr.
Tinaikar , had a point to make. 'Rich people's dogs are walked on the
streets to leave their affluent droppings all over the place,' he said. 'And
then the same people turn around to criticize and blame the
authorities for inefficiency and dirty pavements. What do they expect the
officers to do? Go down with a broom every time their dog feels the pressure
in his bowels?
In America every dog owner has to clean up after his pet has done the job.
Same in Japan Will the Indian citizen do that here?' He's right. We go to
the polls to choose a government and after that forfeit all responsibility.
We sit back wanting to be pampered and expect the government to do
everything for us whilst our contribution is totally negative. We expect the
government to clean up but we are not going to stop chucking garbage all
over the place nor are we going to stop to pick a up a stray piece of paper
and throw it in the bin. We expect the railways to provide clean bathrooms
but we are not going to learn the proper use of bathrooms.
We want Indian Airlines and Air India to provide the best of food and
toiletries but we are not going to stop pilfering at the least opportunity.
This applies even to the staff who is known not to pass on the service to
the public. When it comes to burning social issues like those related to
women, dowry, girl child! and others, we make loud drawing room
protestations and continue to do the reverse at home. Our excuse? 'It's the
whole system which has to change, how will it matter if I alone forego my
sons' rights to a dowry.' So who's going to change the system?
What does a system consist of ? Very conveniently for us it consists of our
neighbours, other households, other cities, other communities and the
government. But definitely not me and YOU. When it comes to us actually
making a positive contribution to the system we lock ourselves along with
our families into a safe cocoon and look into the distance at countries far
away and wait for a Mr.Clean to come along work miracles for us with a
majestic sweep of his hand or we leave the country and run away.
Like lazy cowards hounded by our fears we run to America to bask in their
glory and praise their system. When New York becomes insecure we run to
England When England experiences unemployment, we take the next flight out
to the Gulf. When the Gulf is war struck, we demand to be rescued and
brought home by the Indian government. Everybody is out to abuse and rape
the country. Nobody thinks of feeding the system. Our conscience is
mortgaged to money.

Dear Indians, The article is highly thought inductive, calls for a great
deal of introspection and pricks one's conscience too.... I am echoing J. F.
Kennedy 's words to his fellow Americans to relate to Indians.....

'ASK WHAT WE CAN DO FOR INDIA
AND DO WHAT HAS TO BE DONE TO MAKE INDIA
WHAT AMERICA AND OTHER WESTERN COUNTRIES ARE TODAY'

Somehow I cant be so flippant about the effects of popular culture. For a common viewer with no real knowledge of the historical accuracies ... it might
not be possible to see through the blatant exaggeration and falsities in the movies.

But the very exaggeration in the movie can also be a plus point as I really find it hard to believe that anybody would be fooled by the image of Xerxes as depicted in the movie !!!
It was just RIDICULOUS !
A face full of holes or as some prefer to call it ( multiple piercings), full make up !!!! complete with eye shadow, pink lipstick, a pencil drawn eyebrow !!!

I had read the reports about the Iranians being upset over the depiction of ancient Persians in the movie but when I saw Xerxes , I almost fell from the chair !!!!

I personally wouldnt be very happy
if some crazy filmmaker who made( Dawn of the Dead !) makes a movie about the Indian past depicting soem characters like that !
Although I would not be burning any posters and creating a riot....i would be just laughing over it and advise others to do so !

I also believe in not taking such movies seriously but But ... somehow I just can't dismiss the effects of popular culture on the mass public!
I read somewhere people equating the 'madman' Leonidas and the 'megalomaniac' Xerxes with Prez Ahmedinejad and Prez Bush...
.....which could be the side effect of such stupid movies.

if everyone can go home and forget about seeing it then it should be absolutely fine ....
Which i think many would be trying to do after seeing the blood and the gore...

But again after the movie , I heard my friend say that he would now get a DVD of the movie for the men aboard his ship. He loved the movie and said that that's the kind of brainwashing an army needs !

I had a great time in Geneva at the GIMUN 2007....actually I was voted as the Best delegate in the Security Council this year ...hehe....i was on cloud nine then .... truly delighted :)

I was representing the French republic in the Security Council... yes.. a country with a veto power....and believe me it feels great to have the veto.... but now I know why things get done the way they are in this world today.....we have to take this cherished veto away or at least make it less effective for things to move in the right direction....

I will give more inputs later as I have to catch up on some sleep right now.... its 1.15am in Mumbai right now...!!!!

But there will be a heavy cost as India demands more and more energy.

Within a decade India can overtake Italy, France and the UK to become the world's fifth largest economy if it keeps up its current pace of expansion, according to analysts at Goldman Sachs.

India has shifted into a higher gear, they believe, because a decade of reforms have opened the country to greater competition, and spurred industries to become more efficient.

By 2050 India's economy could be larger even than America's, only China's will be bigger, the bank predicts.

The result will be huge demand from this new giant.

Within 15 years Indians should, on average, be four times richer than today, buying five times as many cars, and the country will burn three times as much crude oil to power its growth, putting yet more strain on the world's resources.

Potential

But India could also be held back.

The country's poor infrastructure is already struggling to keep up with growth, power cuts are common as there isn't enough electricity to meet current demand, ports are overflowing, many roads pot-holed and crumbling.

And a shortage of skilled workers may undermine the future expansion of India's much-vaunted IT industry.

However, other nations are increasingly waking up to the potentially vast market India holds. Last month the largest-ever American trade delegation to India spent two weeks searching out opportunities.

They were followed by a British group 150-strong led by the finance minister, Gordon Brown.

And the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, is to visit this week where he is pressing for major contracts providing nuclear power and defence equipment

White Salwar Kameez/Churidaars( traditional Indian formal wears) or White Saree !

Here is my Gold medal.... it has my name followed by father's and then my mother's name.
and 'Kum' at the beginning is a title equivalent to 'Miss" in Hindi.

I am thankful that they got it right this time. When the exam seating arrangement list came out they had also included my father's rank ( army designation) in my name.

My childhood friend who is an officer in the Indian Navy offered me and my Sis passes to be on board on the family's day at sea. The family's day at sea comes once a year as part of the celebrations of Navy Day.

we sailed for around a total of hundred miles. We also saw some spectacular airshow and other exercises.

it was simply marvelous..... we also saw some porpoises...diving around..but before I could take out my camera ....they were gone....! i had the option to either see them or start my camera ....I chose the former....;)

I hope you had a gala time this New year !
I thought I would spend a relaxing night at my place ... But it was not to be .... I dont like parties that much , so when my friends warned that they would kidnap me and take me to the New year's Ball , I was not very happy about it ! I refused till the very last moment and then just two hours before the event , I decided to give it a try !

And it turned out to be awesome !!!

We partied till three and burned the danced floor !
I and my friend even got the prize for best dancing couple on the floor ! It was the Bumper prize !
We laughed our way to the podium as we just couldnt believe it !
I took some cool videos of the entire thing ! Clicked some crazy photos !
There was also an awesome display of fireworks at Midnight.
Overall I am glad that my friends forced me into attending the party !

I hope this New Year is full of sweet surprises for all of us !

I hope this year brings peace and joy into our world !

A geneticist, a philosopher and a chicken farmer say they have found the answer to a great evolutionary puzzle.
The experts looked at the evidence in the long-standing debate over which came first - the chicken or the egg - and opted for the egg.

Professor John Brookfield, a genetics expert from Nottingham University, said the first chicken must have started out as an embryo in an egg.

This means the organism in the eggshell would have the same DNA as the chicken.

He explained that the reason was due to the fact that genetic material does not change during an animal's life.

Professor Brookfield said: "The first living thing which we could say unequivocally was a member of the species would be this first egg, so I would conclude that the egg came first."

Kangaroo eggs

Professor David Papineau, an expert in the philosophy of science at King's College, London agreed that the first chicken came from an egg and this proves there were chicken eggs before chickens.

"I would argue it is a chicken egg if it has a chicken in it," said Prof Papineau.

"If a kangaroo laid an egg from which an ostrich hatched, that would surely be an ostrich egg, not a kangaroo egg," he added.

Charles Bournes, chairman of trade body Great British Chicken, said "Eggs were around long before the first chicken arrived.

"Of course they may not have been chicken eggs as we see them today but they were eggs," he said.

Professor Brooke added the debate could finally be laid to rest.

To begin industrial production of these new weapons, the NNSA has proposed an expensive, dangerous and unnecessary overhaul of the current nuclear complex. The resulting Bombplex will mean new facilities for new nuclear weapons development and maintenance.

New nukes in the US mean new nukes in other countries!
Designing and building new nuclear weapons will encourage other countries to follow the same path, ultimately leading to a new nuclear arms race. At a time when the United States is trying to convince North Korea to abandon its nuclear weapons program, Iran to halt uranium enrichment and the rest of the world to abstain from developing nuclear weapons, we should not be taking actions that encourage other countries to develop or expand their nuclear weapons capabilities. We should be dismantling our existing weapons, not developing new ones.

The Bombplex and RRW violate international law!
Article VI of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, of which the United States is both a signatory and one of the chief architects, says that the United States is obligated to engage in effective multilateral efforts leading to nuclear disarmament. By defying international law and building a new generation of nuclear weapons, the United States would be hindering international non-proliferation initiatives and crippling international nuclear disarmament efforts.

The NNSA is wasting money by replacing nuclear weapons that ARE proven reliable and that will last for decades!
The NNSA has said that the Reliable Replacement Warhead is necessary to replace aging nuclear weapons in the US arsenal. The NNSA already spends billions of dollars every year making sure our nuclear arsenal is reliable and will last for decades. The Government Accounting Office has estimated that simply building the Bombplex will cost an additional $150 billion. According to a currently unreleased study conducted by the nuclear labs themselves, the nuclear weapons we have now could last as long as 100 years! The reality is that we don’t need to waste money on nuclear weapons that will continue to be functional long into the future.

There is still time to act! The Bombplex is not yet a reality! The DOE is legally required to listen to what you have to say!
This is your chance to be heard! The DOE has released a Notice of Intent for the Bombplex. Until January 17, 2007, they are required to hold public hearings around the country where you can comment. You can also submit comments through this email! Write to the NNSA today to tell them that the Bombplex is wrong!
